Manila Symphony Junior Orchestra (MSJO) violinist Vittorio Vicenzo G. Vizcocho V (right photo) has qualified for the National Music Competitions for Young Artists (NAMCYA) Junior Strings Division Final Round along with fellow MSJO performers (far right photo with Vittorio) Maura Mikaela Medina and Sharlette Emeline Saluta. Six violinists from various regions of the country hurdled the semi-finalists. For the semifinal round each had to play two contrasting movements for a Bach solo sonata or partita, two movements from a sonata with piano, and a choice between a Filipino piece or a showpiece. The finalists earlier passed through a nationwide qualifying stage to make the semi-finals that narrowed the field to 12 and eventually, now in the finals – six.
The contestants will now advance into the National Finals in November where they have to perform a full concerto.
Vittorio, or Vinci to close friends and relatives, is the youngest son of Subic Bay News Publisher Vic V. Vizcocho, Jr. and Managing Editor Louella G. Vizcocho.
Vittorio, Maura and Sharlette were part of the MSJO group that recently won two Grand Prizes in Europe, one in Vienna, Austria and another at Bratislava, Slovakia.
