U.S. NAVY. The Austin-class amphibious transport dock USS Denver, one of several U.S. Navy ships docked at the Subic Bay Freeport, former largest American military installation in the world outside the U.S. mainland, for the joint military exercises with the Armed Forces of the Philippines. The joint military exercises are being conducted as tensions are running high between the Philippines and China over the ownership of Panatag (Scarborough) Shoal in the West Philippine Sea, also called South China Sea.
