TRIATHLON EVENT PERKS UP SUBIC BAY
SUBIC BAY – This year’s triathlon season concluded in this bustling Freeport with its final event, the ALVEO 5150 Triathlon and Go For Gold Sprint, on Sunday (Oct. 23).
“Our hotels, restaurants and shopping malls, among other establishments, teemed with business activities as early as days before the actual event,” Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) Chairman & Administrator Rolen C. Paulino told Subic Bay News.
“We have come a long way since our two-year hiatus due to the pandemic,” said Princess Galura, Philippines General Manager and Regional Director, “Subic Bay was where we made our return with IRONMAN Philippines and IRONMAN 70.3 last March,” she added, thus the final race of the year at the same venue with the ALVEO 5150.
Spectators from all over the country, some from abroad, were treated with the superb performances of the athletes which saw Bea Quiambao snatch her second 5150 crown this year and Irienold Reig, Jr. his first, routing a strong line-up of participants in the men’s side.
“We hope to have more of these events in the future,” Paulino said, “this is what we need to generate revenue for the agency, the private businesses and employees.”
According to Galura, the event attracted close to 800 participants from a total of 20 countries including Australia, Canada, Switzerland, France, Korea, Singapore, the United States, Taiwan, Turkey, The Netherlands, South Africa, and Hong Kong. (Vic V. Vizcocho, Jr.) ###
