SBIFF 2019: “The Maid in London” out, “Bubog” in as Demo Film (by Iya Oliva)
Subic Bay Freeport – – – The Subic Bay International Film Festival has announced that “The Maid in London” has been disqualified as an official entry in this year’s festival set to begin tomorrow, Friday, June 21, 2019 at Harbor Point Mall’s Cinema 4.
“We regret to inform the public that due to the failure of key personnel of “The Maid in London,’ led by Director Danni Ugali, to comply with basic cinema requirements, we have been constrained to disqualify the said film,” said Festival Directors Vic V. Vizcocho, Jr. and Arlyn dela Cruz in a statement, “therefore, the said film is effectively dropped as an official entry to the 2nd Subic Bay International Film Festival.”
The 9:15AM to 11:50AM screening of “The Maid in London” in the Festival has been cancelled, and instead, a non-competing film of SBIFF co-Festival Director Arlyn dela Cruz entitled “BUBOG’ will be shown as a “Demo” film.
“Bubog” is a film about Extra-Judicial Killings” (EJK) of drug suspects, starring Julio Diaz, Elizabeth Oropeza, Jackie-Lou Blanco and Juan Rodrigo, among other big names in the Philippine film industry.
The rest of the entries remain in competition, namely, “Tell Me Your Dreams,” “1957,” “Jesusa,” “Rendezvous,” and “Kids of War.”
Superstar Nora Aunor will be honored in the Awards Night on Sunday, June 23, with the “Philippine Cinema Icon Award.” Other life-time achievement awardees will be veteran actress Perla Bautista and Cinematographer Romy Vitug.
Last Year’s life-time achievement awardee was veteran actor Eddie Garcia, who passed away this afternoon after a mishap on the set of a tele-serye he was shooting.
