Three tertiary schools in Zambales and Olongapo City signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with Philippine Merchant Marine Academy (PMMA) to establish affiliate and / or satellite Naval Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) Units in their respective schools.
The schools consist of the Ramon Magsaysay Technological University (RMTU) in Zambales, Central Luzon College of Science and Technology (CELTECH) and Lyceum of Subic Bay in Olongapo City.
The MOA signing took place on June 9, 2015 at the PMMA Conference Room lead by LCDR (Vice Gov.) Ramon G. Lacbain II, Commander of the 13th Naval Reserve Forces – Northern Luzon Philippine Navy.
The tertiary schools were represented by their President and school heads in the MOA signing.
LCDR Larry Tingson, Vice President for Administration and Finance represented PMMA in behalf of its Superintendent RADM Richard U. Ritual.
Dr. Chona Sergio, NSTP Director and Dr. Cecilia Santiago, University Registrar represented RMTU in behalf of its President, Dr. Cornelio Garcia.
CELTECH was represented by Rene Paulo Legaspi, its Senior Vice President and the Lyceum of Subic Bay by its President, Alfonso Borda.
LCDR Ramon G. Lacbain II together with RADM Jose Renan C. Suarez, Commander of the Naval Education and Training Command (NETC), CDR Edwin T. Ello, PMMA Commandant and Lt. Tomie Jay Molano, Acting Commander of the Naval Reserve Center – Northern Luzon acted as witnesses in the MOA signing.
“The three schools will start to offer Naval Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) starting this first semester of school year 2015 – 2016. Aside from their students, the schools will also accept cross enrolees from other tertiary institutions,” said LCDR Lacbain.
According to LCDR Lacbain, after the MOA signing, National Service Training Program (NSTP) General Orientations will be held in Zambales and Olongapo City, on June 13 and 14, respectively in order to inform the students taking up NSTP about its components, particularly the Naval ROTC.
“All NSTP students and other interested students are invited to attend the NSTP General Orientation which will be held on June 13 at the RMTU Iba and Masinloc Campuses and on June 14 at the Olongapo City Convention Center,” added LCDR Lacbain.
