Kalalake National High School Launches “L3-BFP” Project

Olongapo City – The Kalalake National High School launched the “Learning and Loving Lactation for Breastfeeding Pinays” (Project “L3-BFP”) in connection with the celebration of Women’s Month that has been participated by twenty-five (25) breastfeeding mothers and teachers.
The project proponent, Lia Ann M. Cortez, Teacher III of the Kalalake Senior High School department anchored her noble advocacy with the Proclamation No. 224 s. 1988, “Declaring the First Week of March of Every Year as Women’s Week and March 8, 1988, and Every Year Thereafter as Women’s Rights and International Peace Day.” Signed by former President Corazon C. Aquino on March 1, 1988 affirming our solidarity with the United Nations and recognized Filipino women’s contribution to the struggle for national independence, civil liberties, equality, and human rights.
Women’s Month in the Philippines is celebrated every March. Since 1988, Filipinos have dedicated the entire month to celebrating the achievements of the Filipino women and raising awareness about domestic violence, sexism, and other hardships that Filipinas face daily. This event includes celebrating International Women’s Day, promulgated by the United Nations as a time for people worldwide to discuss civil and human rights and equality for women.
Republic Act No. 10028 is an expanding the promotion of breastfeeding, amending for the purpose of the Republic Act No. 7600, otherwise known as “An act providing incentives to all government and private health institutions with rooming-in and breastfeeding practices and for other purposes.”
The State adopts rooming-in as a national policy to encourage, protect and support the practice of breastfeeding. It shall create an environment where basic physical, emotional, and psychological needs of mothers and infants are fulfilled through the practice of rooming-in and breastfeeding..
It is in regard that the organization, Breastfeeding Pinays of Olongapo in collaboration with the Local Government Unit and other volunteers, conceptualized this project as they felt the needs of the nursing mothers. As we celebrate the Women’s month, they believe that through this activity it can empower women and promote welfare of the thriving infants. (Marishella B. Lapid)
