Zambales Governor Hermogenes Ebdane, Jr. retained his post with a comfortable margin over former Governor Amor Deloso in the just-concluded elections in the province.
Along with Jeffrey Khonghun who handily defeated Olongapo Mayor James “Bong” Gordon, Jr., in the contest for Representative of the 1st District of Zambales, and re-elected Vice Gocernor Ramon Lacbain, Ebdane was proclaimed winner by the Provincial Board of Canvassers on Wednesday.
Ebdane garnered 129,828 votes over Deloso’s 107,103, with canvass of votes from two towns yet to be completed, but the results of which would be insufficient to change the standings.
Khonghun got 79,587 votes against Gordon’s poor 47,004 votes.
Ebdane’s running mate Vice Gov. Lacbain got 122,744 votes with opponent Rica Victoria Diaz-Arambulo managing only 84,711 votes. Cheryl Deloso-Montalla won as Representative of the 2nd District of Zambales, but his brother, incumbent Iba Town Mayor Ad Hebert Deloso lost his bid for re-election, to former Provincial Admnistrator Rundy Ebdane, son of Gov. Ebdane.
All three of Ebdane’s candidates for the 1st District’s Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) members won, and have been proclaimed, as well, namely, Jonathan Khonghun, Jose Benedicto Felarca, Jose Gutierrez Sr.
The proclamation of the winning seven SP members for the 2nd District has been put on hold pending completion of the canvass of all votes. In Olongapo City, Vice Mayor Rolen Paulino ended almost three decades of Gordon rule, beating Anne Gordon for the mayoral seat.
Paulino ran under Ebdane’s Sulong Zambales Party (SZP) and the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC) banners.
