NCCT Media Literacy & Video production workshop

 

SPA teachers and Prof. Amparo S. Valdez, resource speaker from Ateneo De Manila University at the National Council for Children’ s Television (NCCT) series of seminar-workshops dubbed as Rights, Camera, Action!: Television Literacy and Video Production Workshop for Children and Katuwang Ako ng Makabatang Telebisyon at the OCNHS Alumni Hall.

The National Council for Children’ s Television (NCCT) conducted a series of seminar- workshops dubbed as Rights, Camera, Action!: Television Literacy and Video Production Workshop for Children and Katuwang Ako ng Makabatang Telebisyon on August 18-29, 2015 at the OCNHS Alumni Hall. The said seminar workshop was hosted by the Special Program in the Arts of OCNHS headed by Ms. Nimpa T. Ramos and principal Leonardo P. de Guzman.

The series of seminar workshops were attended by both students and parents respectively. Daisy Atienza, supervising administrative officer of NCCT spearheaded the parents’ seminar on Katuwang Ako ng Makabatang Telebisyon which aim is to basically educate the participants on the importance of parents’ guidance on their children in watching television. Resource speaker Amparo S. Valdez, a professor from Ateneo De Manila University stressed that the KMTV Caravan aims to create a community of parents, guardian and teachers committed to advocating smart parenting by being able to recognize the importance of TV screening in their own households.

The seminar workshop on Television Literacy and Video Production were attended by the SPA AND SPFL grade 9 and 10 students. Katherine M. Manalo, NCCT Project Development Officer II and Sandy P. Sandoval, NCCT Project Officer both gave their lectures and workshops in different modules focused on the importance of media literacy and understanding of the role of media in society as well as essential skills of inquiry and self expression necessary for citizens of democracy.

Moreover, Professor Olivia Libay Linsangan Cantor, editor/columnist, TV scriptwriter/director for ABS-CBN and GMA , prof at the UP Film Institute and Meriam College discussed among the students Basic Gender Sensitivity and Gender-Sensitive Concept Development. She further exposed the student- participants in the pre and post production processes in Video production.

A Gender-sensitive video was presented by the the student-participants as their final output and the video that excellently depicted the theme and followed all techniques in the basic video making was awarded the best output. (Maria Teresa De Jesus- Lumibao)
