3 Pampanga mayors, Korean city partner for agri jobs

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga — Three local government units in Pampanga signed into the Foreign Seasonal Workers Program of Yeongam City in Jeollanam-Do province, South Korea.
These include the local governments of Apalit, Masantol, and Minalin.
Said partnership is one of the outcomes of the provincial government’s trade, labor, and agricultural mission to help the South Korean city deal with labor shortage.
During the event, Yeongman City Mayor Woo Seung-Hee said he hopes that through this agreement, they will be able to resolve the problem of labor shortage in Yeongam-gun, citing that this will serve as a good opportunity to provide high-quality jobs to workers in Pampanga.
“While the coronavirus was unprecedented, an aging and declining population led our city to experience difficulties due to shortage of manpower. That is why this signing of the memorandum of understanding would be of great help to our Yeongam-gun,” he said.
For his part, Apalit Mayor Oscar Tetangco Jr. committed to provide the best workers who will be Yeongnam City’s partners in the development and cultivation of agriculture.
Meanwhile, Minalin Mayor Philip Naguit said opportunities like this may bring about progress and innovation in the agriculture industry.
“Synergized and collaborative exchanges are essential in determining our ways forward towards the realization of our people’s common desire for a sustainable future,” Masantol Mayor Jose Antonio Bustos added.
The trade mission was initiated to help the province recover from the economic slowdown resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic since March 2020. (PIA 3)
